Reached by causeway from St. Simons island, The Cloister is an internationally acclaimed, Five-Star, Five-Diamond resort. Though much of Sea Island is residential, island life centers very much around The Cloister, honored as one of the world's great hotels. The Cloister was established in the 1920's by industrialist Howard E. Coffin, noted as the inventor of the Hudson automobile.
